Mobile Food Pantry Program
The Mobile Food Pantry Program is Second Harvest’s newest initiative. The goal of the program is to provide food assistance to families and individuals in need in rural and underserved communities. Second Harvest partners with churches, community centers, public housing complexes, fire halls and other organizations to plan the distribution of a truckload of food. In order to promote balanced meals, the mobile food pantry typically distributes not only boxed and canned goods, but also bread and baked goods, fresh produce, and frozen and refrigerated foods.
At all mobile food pantry visits:
- Public participation is free.
- Pre-registration is required.
- Must bring proof of residency (old phone bill, utility bill, etc.)
- We ask the participants to bring a box or basket to carry grocery products home.
The income guidelines for receiving food at the mobile pantry are as follows:
Household of 1: no more than $1,396/month
Household of 2: no more than $1,891/month
Household of 3: no more than $2,386/month
Household of 4: no more than $2,881/month
Household of 5: no more than $3,376/month
*For each additional family member add: $495/month
The program has been very well received since its inception in June 2008 and is expected to keep growing. The mobile food pantry distributes approximately 4,000 to 10,000 pounds of food on a visit.
